Fingerprint compounds are also called fingerprint fossils.
Some chemically stable compounds distributed in rocks and crude oil. They are rarely or almost unaffected by migration and thermal deterioration. People can use the characteristics of crude oil and source rock extracts, the similarities and differences and relative distribution of compounds, to judge whether there is a relationship between crude oil and source rock, and to trace the migration path of oil.
