spherical fuel element
The fuel ball for the pebble bed type high temperature gas-cooled reactor. The basic structure is that a fuel-free graphite spherical shell is filled with a dispersion fuel composed of coated fuel particles and a graphite matrix. Matrix graphite is used to slow down neutrons and dissipate fission heat. The graphite spherical shell and matrix graphite together withstand external pressure, impact, corrosion and wear.
