Introduction to mineral cleavage
The mineral cleavage was originally called "cleavage", which refers to the habit of splitting the mineral into a smooth plane in a certain direction after being stressed. The smooth plane is called the cleavage plane. Mineral cleavage is controlled by the crystal structure and the degree of chemical bonding, so different minerals have different sets of numbers (splitting into a series of planes in the same direction is called a set of cleavages) and different degrees of cleavages.
