Introduction to David Buick

GM's predecessor was Buick Motors, founded in 1907 by David Dunbar Buick.

David began developing gasoline engines in 1899 and built the first Buick in 1900. Before 1903, David's factory produced only two cars, and it was probably the most inconspicuous one among hundreds of car factories in the United States. Although David Buick was an accomplished inventor, due to poor management, the factory was heavily in debt and the technical staff resigned. In November 1904, Buick Motors was transferred to Billy Durant. Durant was the largest carriage manufacturer in Flint. Because Buick's power is strong, it has obvious advantages over other cars in the mountains or through the muddy roads. Buick cars are quickly recognized by consumers as truly practical cars.
