Introduction to cathode ray
The electron flow from the cathode of the low-pressure gas discharge tube is accelerated by the electric field. The cathode can be cold or hot. Electrons are emitted from the cathode through field emission from an external electric field, bombardment of positive ions in the residual gas, or thermionic emission.
