Introduction to chromite
Chromite is a mineral whose main components are oxides of iron, magnesium and chromium: (Fe, Mg)Cr2O4, which is a kind of spinel. It is the only chromium ore that can be mined. The mineral composition is more complex, the content of magnesium is uncertain, and sometimes it contains aluminum and iron. There are about 30 kinds of chromium-containing minerals in nature, but only chromite is of industrial value. Chromite, aluminochromite and chromium-rich spinel are common in China.
