The characteristic impedance is the inherent characteristic of the radio frequency transmission line that affects the amplitude and phase changes of the voltage and current of the radio wave. It is equal to the ratio of the voltage to the current everywhere, expressed by V/I. In a radio frequency circuit, resistance, capacitance, and inductance all impede the flow of alternating current, collectively called impedance.
