Optical fiber classification

Optical fiber can be divided into different types according to different properties, which can be divided into the following types:

(1) According to the number of transmission points, it can be divided into single-mode fiber and multi-mode fiber. The single-mode fiber has a small core diameter, works at a given wavelength, and can only transmit in a single mode, with a wide transmission frequency band and large transmission content. Multi-mode fiber can transmit in multiple modes at a given operating wavelength. Compared with single-mode fiber, multi-mode fiber has poor transmission performance.

(2) According to the classification of refractive index, it can be divided into jump type fiber and graded fiber. The refractive index of the jumper fiber core and the refractive index of the protective layer are both constant, and the graded fiber core increases with the increase of the radius.
