Introduction of uranium compounds
The silicide of uranium is mainly uranium silicide USi, which has a high density (15.6 g / cm), a low parasitic neutron absorption cross section, and has good corrosion resistance to water. Preliminary irradiation tests have proven that it is a potentially useful nuclear fuel. Uranium silicide can be produced by melting uranium and silicon in a vacuum induction furnace. Due to its narrow composition range, single-phase alloys are rarely obtained in practice, often containing excessive uranium or USi.
