Electron capture is a type of beta decay, which refers to the process in which the nucleus captures an electron from the outer electron shell (usually the inner layer). As a result, a proton in the nucleus becomes a neutron (the number of charges in the nucleus will therefore decrease by 1), and a neutrino is released at the same time.
