α-amino acid

The α-amino acid is a compound in which the hydrogen atom on the α carbon atom in the carboxylic acid molecule is replaced by an amino group.

Generally a colorless crystalline solid, the melting point is higher than that of the corresponding carboxylic acid or amine, generally 200 ℃ ~ 300 ℃, some amino acids decompose when heated to the melting point temperature.
