What Is the Rainbow Effect (Rainbowing)?

The Rainbow Effect is a visual change that appears on the coating surface during the flashing stage.

As solvents begin to evaporate and the coating starts to react with the environment, the surface may show rainbow-like colors under certain lighting conditions.

For some products, this can be a useful reference before leveling.

However, it should not be considered the only indicator for wipe timing.

Q: Should detailers always wait for the "rainbow effect" before wiping ceramic coating?

A: Not always.

During ceramic coating application, many detailers use the appearance of a Rainbow Effect (also known as Rainbowing) as a visual reference to judge when the coating has reached the flashing stage.

However, this method is not suitable for every ceramic coating product.

Different coating formulas, solvent systems, temperature, and humidity conditions can affect the flashing process.
