VTEC engine features
The CIVIC's 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine has a maximum power of 103kW/6300rpm and a maximum torque output of 174Nm/4300rpm, which is the first engine of Honda's third-generation VTEC technology. The biggest feature is that the computer automatically adjusts the camshaft lift according to the actual use condition. When the engine needs higher power output under a larger load, the camshaft lift can be changed at 2000 rpm to obtain more sufficient power, and the driving is uniform. The engine will increase the camshaft lift at 4000 rpm in order to achieve a good balance between fuel economy and power performance. At the same time, the control of the throttle closing time and angle by the ECU effectively reduces the pumping loss when the engine is receiving oil during driving, thus reducing the fuel consumption.
