Orcinus orca: It is the largest species in the Mammalia and Dolphinidae. The head is conical with no protruding beak. Body size, flipper size, and dorsal fin height have obvious sexual dimorphism. The large and towering dorsal fin is located in the center of the back. The adult male dorsal fin is upright and can reach 1.0-1.8 meters in height. The female dorsal fin is clearly sickle-shaped and is less than 1 meter in height. The pectoral fins are large and broad, roughly round. The upper jaw and lower jaw each have 10-14 pairs of large and sharp teeth. The body color pattern of the killer whale is mainly composed of two contrasting colors, black and white. The white area on the ventral surface of the body extends from the lower jaw to the tail, narrowing between the black pectoral fins, and is produced behind the belly button. The ventral surface of the tail fin is also white. Both the back and the sides of the body are black, but there are white patches on the flanks near the genital fissure, and there are also obvious oval white patches behind the eyes. There are gray to white saddle-shaped markings behind the dorsal fin.
Killer whales are highly socialized animals, and some groups of families are the most stable families in the animal kingdom. Some complex social behaviors, hunting techniques, and voice communication of killer whales are considered evidence that killer whales have their own culture. They are carnivores with fierce temperament and good at attacking prey. They are natural enemies of animals such as penguins and seals. Sometimes they attack other cetaceans, even great white sharks, which can be called the kings of the sea.
Distributed in almost all ocean areas, from the equator to polar waters. The water temperature or depth does not limit its range. The distribution extends to many enclosed or semi-enclosed sea areas, such as the Mediterranean Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Gulf of California, the Gulf of Mexico, the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf.
Killer whales can be divided into different ecological types according to their habitat and habits. Different ecological types of killer whales have slightly different appearances and habits.
