The biological effects of ultrasound
Intense ultrasound can cause cell membrane rupture, reduction of membrane surface charge, or changes in membrane permeability. Biological tissues have relatively high absorption and low heat conduction to ultrasound, which can easily cause temperature rise, which can cause blood vessels to dilate or contract, and change blood pressure. High-intensity focused ultrasound irradiation can destroy tumor cells or inhibit their growth, while appropriate intensity stimulation can promote tissue growth.
