Space Charge Layer definition
The space charge region is also called the depletion layer. In the PN junction, due to the diffusion movement of free electrons and the drift movement caused by the internal electric field, a very thin charge region is generated in the middle of the PN junction (the interface between the P and N regions), which is the space charge region.
