Microprogram definition

The microprogram was first proposed by M.V. Wilkes, a professor at the University of Cambridge in England in 1951. It is a means of implementing a program, specifically writing a machine instruction into a microprogram. Each microprogram contains a number of microinstructions, each of which corresponds to one or more microinstructions. In a system with a microprogram, the CPU has a control memory inside for storing microprogram segments corresponding to various machine instructions. When the CPU executes the machine instruction, it searches for the micro program corresponding to the machine instruction in the control memory, and takes out the corresponding micro instruction to control the execution of each micro operation, thereby completing the function of the program statement. Microprogramming technology refers to a technology that uses software technology to implement hardware design.
