Linear spectrum definition
A spectrum consisting of narrow spectral lines. The light waves emitted by monoatomic gas or metal vapor all have a linear spectrum, so the linear spectrum is also called atomic spectrum. When the atomic energy transitions from a higher energy level to a lower energy level, a light wave with a single wavelength is radiated.
