Definition of unit impulse response

Unit impulse response The response of the system to a unit pulse input. Also known as the memory function. The impulse response determines the characteristics of a linear system containing the same information as the transfer function in the frequency domain, while the transfer function is the Laplace transform of the impulse response. The output of a linear system is given by the convolution of the input of the system with its impulse response.
