Definition of electrostriction
Electrostriction is the inverse effect of the piezoelectric effect. Some crystals will elongate or shorten their deformation under the action of an electric field, called electrostriction. The electrostrictive effect can be used to transform electrical vibrations into mechanical vibrations, which are commonly used in transducers that generate ultrasound, as well as headphones and tweeters.
