Definition of chain segments
A segment is the smallest unit in a polymer chain that can move independently. Segment length can be used to characterize the compliance of the chain. If the length of the segment is equivalent to the length of a bond, the molecular chain will be extremely compliant; if the length of the segment is equal to the straight length of the chain, the molecular chain will be extremely rigid.
