On November 25, 1844, Bent was born in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He was born before his parents, so he was with the surname of his mother, Josephine Vaillant. Called Karl Friedrich Michael Vaillant, a family of craftsmen, and his father, Johann Georg Benz, was originally a train driver. Bentz’s parents got married after 1 year of birth.
