Brittleness

Apr 13, 2022

Brittleness refers to the property that a material only produces a small deformation under the action of external force (such as tensile, impact, etc.), that is, fracture failure. In contrast to toughness, only a small elastic deformation occurs before fracture and no plastic deformation occurs. Brittle materials have poor resistance to dynamic loads or shocks. The brittleness of metal materials mainly depends on its composition and structure.
