Advantages of Switched Reluctance Motor Drive System

1. The structure of the motor is simple, and there are no windings of any form on the rotor; there are only simple concentrated windings on the stator, with shorter ends and no interphase jumper wires. Therefore, it has the characteristics of fewer manufacturing processes, low cost, reliable work, and small maintenance.

2. The torque of the switched reluctance motor has nothing to do with the polarity of the current. It only needs one-way current excitation. Theoretically, each phase in the power conversion circuit can use only one switching element, and it is connected in series with the motor winding, which is not like a PWM inverter. Like the power supply of the device, there is a danger that the two switching elements are connected directly. Therefore, the switch reluctance motor drive system has simple circuit, high reliability, and lower cost than AC speed control system.

3. The structure of the rotor of the switched reluctance motor has a small restriction on the speed, and can be made into a high-speed motor, and the rotor has a small moment of inertia. The magnitude and direction of the phase turn torque can be changed every time the current is commutated, so the system Have a good dynamic response.

4. As SRM adopts a unique structure and control method, it has advantages in some aspects compared with induction motors. The efficiency and power density of the SRM system can be maintained at a high level over a wide range of speeds and loads.
